Mercedes-AMG has develop into the newest carmaker to totally commit to esports, launching an all-new series across three different platforms starting today.
The series is officially called the “Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Virtual Championship” and will probably be held concurrently Assetto Corsa Competition (PC only), Gran Turismo 7AND Racing in cooperation with the brand's “Private Lounge” platform for AMG owners and fans.
This inaugural 12 months of the event, dubbed “Season Zero,” will feature three stages that can feature the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in each game. The first stage starts today and consists of a hot lap event you could find in Gran Turismo 7 (with standard time trial rewards also available), ending on August thirtieth.
You'll have three weeks to schedule a hot-lap stage, which can effectively determine the finalists for the “race days” that constitute the championship itself. The top 28 drivers on each platform will advance to the highest division, while all other entries will probably be entered right into a draw for 28 spots within the second division (although GT7leagues will probably be split into two parallel leagues attributable to grid limitations).
A complete of six races will probably be held for every title on real tracks featured in all three titles:
- September eleventh – Race Day 1 – Laguna Seca
- September twenty fifth – Race Day 2 – Brands Hatch
- October ninth – Race Day 3 – Suzuka
- October 30 – Race Day 4 – Nurburgring GP
- November thirteenth – Race Day 5 – Monza
- November 27 – Race Day 6 – Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Each race day will consist of two races, one among which will probably be a regular format race, which incorporates practice, qualifying and the ultimate race. However, the second race will feature ‘challenges and handicaps’, which award bonus points. As these haven’t yet been determined and is not going to be announced until the drivers’ briefings before each event, we usually are not entirely sure what to make of this…
The two leagues may also feature some interaction. After the third day of racing, the highest three players from the lower league will probably be promoted to the upper league, and the underside three players from the upper league will probably be demoted to switch them. Players in all divisions on all platforms can earn championship points, however the points from the lower division will only be price 70% of the points from the upper division.
While it could seem complicated in the intervening time, Mercedes-AMG will use Season Zero to evolve and refine the event in collaboration with the community and participants for future series.
At the top of the race, the highest three drivers within the Virtual Championship will receive “money-can’t-buy” prizes from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, while the general winner will enjoy an exclusive drive in a Mercedes-AMG race automotive.
You will need register for the event on a special Mercedes-AMG website, but otherwise participation is open to anyone over 16 years of age with the suitable hardware and software.
