Erik Jones Agrees to Multi-Yr Contract Extension with Legacy Motor Club

Jones’ signing comes on the heels of a recent organizational shakeup at LMC, with longtime NASCAR engineer Jacob Canter taking up as chief competition officer and Bobby Kennedy being hired within the newly created position of general manager.

Jones, 28, is currently competing in his eighth full-time Cup season and fourth with the organization, which was previously called Petty GMS Racing until its name change prior to the 2023 season.

“Erik Jones has been a mainstay of the Legacy Motor Club driver lineup since Maury (Gallagher, team co-owner) decided to enter the highly competitive NASCAR Cup Division,” said Cal Wells III, LMC CEO.

“He is a proven champion who, with the right team supported by Toyota, can and will challenge for race wins with the best on any given Sunday.”

During his Cup profession, Jones has three wins, 37 top-five finishes and 89 top-10 finishes. In 2021, he joined then-Richard Petty Motorsports from Joe Gibbs Racing. This 12 months, Jones ranks twenty eighth within the series standings with one top-10 finish.

He also has seven wins and one championship (2015) within the Truck category and nine wins within the Xfinity Series.

“I’m looking forward to what we can build with Legacy Motor Club,” Jones said. “I’ve been driving the No. 43 for a few years now and I feel like I’m entering some of the best years of my career. I look forward to growing with Legacy MC in the coming seasons.”

Team co-owner Jimmie Johnson said retaining Jones is vital to the organization's future success.

“Erik is one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR, and I’ve had the opportunity to race with him and I’ve had the opportunity to watch him drive for other teams and the Club,” he said. “I like his talent and I’m excited to have him racing for us within the years to return.

“Erik will be instrumental in turning around our program, and we look forward to equipping him with the tools he needs to race for wins on Sundays and, ultimately, championships one day.”
